Easter is more than just a holiday it’s a true culinary journey, moving from the simplicity of fasting to rich, shared festive meals. After the forty days of Lent, Easter Sunday finally brings back the classic flavors that define the traditional holiday table.
Traditional Hungarian Easter Flavors
In Hungary, the centerpiece of the Easter table is boiled, smoked ham, complemented by a selection of simple yet essential ingredients:
- eggs
- horseradish
- sweet braided bread (kalács)
- fresh spring onions
These humble ingredients come together in perfect harmony — salty, creamy, sharp, and fresh all at once. It’s a combination that defines traditional Hungarian Easter food.

Easter Food Traditions Across Europe
Across Europe, Easter carries the same spirit, expressed through different culinary traditions. In Slavic countries, Easter baskets are filled with ham, sausage, and eggs, often blessed as part of the celebration. In Germany, the holiday takes on a sweeter note with braided breads and Osterbrot. In Italy, long, multi-course family meals are common, featuring lamb and the iconic Colomba di Pasqua. In Spain, the influence of Lent is still present, with fish-based dishes alongside classic desserts like cinnamon-infused torrijas.
Different ingredients, different rhythms – but the essence remains the same: sharing time together and enjoying festive flavors.
Tradition with a Twist
We started thinking about how to bring these well-known Easter flavors into a new form. That’s how our latest chef’s special was born: a smoked pork and creamy egg spread lángos.
Served on traditional Hungarian fried dough, this dish is both new and familiar – a modern take on classic Easter flavors.

Easter Lángos – A Hungarian Street Food Special
We took the essential elements of a Hungarian Easter meal and placed them on a freshly fried lángos:
- smoked pork ham
- creamy egg spread
- bold horseradish cream
- fresh spring onions
It’s exactly the flavor profile you expect from Easter — built on a hot, crispy street food base. A true Budapest street food experience with a seasonal twist.
Easter, a Little Different
Whether you’re between Easter traditions or simply craving something special, this lángos brings everything Easter represents: familiar flavors, a touch of nostalgia, and a shared experience with friends and family.
