We wrapped up an incredible birthday celebration on Vécsey Street – and honestly, it exceeded all our expectations.
Together, we celebrated a story that started as a summer student job at Lake Balaton. Fifteen years ago, it all began with a simple idea: let’s make truly great lángos in downtown Budapest. In the early days, Ádám Sóti stood behind the counter, launching a small food stand with his uncle – driven by the belief that lángos truly belongs in the heart of the city.
Later, Dániel Varga joined, carrying forward a family legacy of lángos making passed down from his parents and grandparents. This made the story about more than just a business – it became one of passion spanning generations. The team was eventually completed by Krisztián Gál, Ádám’s cousin, who brought with him a deep love and respect for hospitality. And that’s how the story came full circle: from a small stand to two restaurants and a continuously growing community.
On March 22, we brought back where it all began – for one day, both in atmosphere and in prices.
We were so happy to see so many of you: by lunchtime, long lines were already forming outside the restaurant, while inside everything was in full swing. The waitstaff and the bar were buzzing, and in the kitchen, lángos were being made non-stop.
From the retro specials, the cheese & sour cream, the Hungarian-style, and the Rustic style lángos were the clear favorites – but the “Sweet Chili Bliss” lángos was also a huge hit, brought to us for the day by the team at Green Chili Jam. The first batch sold out in moments.
The prize wheel was spinning all day long, and one clear favorite emerged: the new Retro Lángos socks – most of you chose those.
Meanwhile, kids were happily running around the restaurant with helium balloons, while the adults were clearly enjoying the day just as much – though they were especially happy about the retro-priced lángos. The birthday decor was everywhere colors, little details, exactly the atmosphere we had imagined.
Between 4 and 6 PM, things really kicked up a notch: Dynamite Dudes brought authentic rock and roll vibes, and for a moment, the restaurant felt more like a lively party than a lángos spot. The applause kept coming, the energy never dropped – some people were only held back from dancing by the lángos in their hands.
The owners were also there in person, welcoming guests as hosts. For some, it was their first time meeting them, while others chatted with them like old friends.
By the end of the day, the team was pleasantly exhausted – but it was the kind of tiredness that feels good, because we got to celebrate together with you.
This day wasn’t just a birthday – it marked the beginning of a new chapter. Fifteen years is a big milestone for us. And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that we wouldn’t be here without you.
